TNG's Q3 interest bill tops its dividend payout

TNG posted its highest quarterly net profit in 12 quarters, yet its VND 87.4 billion interest expense still exceeds the roughly VND 64.4 billion dividend it is about to pay. Orders make the money; the banks take a large share.

In Q3 2026 alone, TNG Investment and Trading JSC (ticker TNG, HNX) paid VND 87.4 billion in interest.Elibook That is more than the roughly VND 64.4 billion the garment maker has just decided to distribute to shareholders.Doanh nhân Pháp luật

The two figures surfaced a day apart. On October 22, the Q3 financial statements showed TNG's net profit at VND 151.5 billion, the highest in the last 12 quarters.Elibook On the morning of October 23, CafeF reported that the board had approved an advance on the second 2026 dividend.CafeF This article starts with the cash shareholders are about to receive, traces it back to where it came from, and then follows the profit flowing out to the banks.

The payout and its calendar

Under the board resolution, TNG will advance a 5% cash dividend, or VND 500 per share. The record date is November 11, 2026.CafeF Payment is expected on November 20, 2026. With more than 128.7 million shares outstanding, the total payout comes to roughly VND 64.4 billion.Doanh nhân Pháp luật

TNG's second 2026 dividend calendar

November 11 falls on a Wednesday. By the usual convention, the ex-dividend date would be the trading session right before it, Tuesday, November 10. HNX confirms that date in its official notice, so holders should check it once published. To be on the list, an investor must buy no later than the session before the ex-dividend date.

For a current holder, the account changes in two steps. On the ex-dividend date, TNG's reference price is the previous close minus the dividend,VnExpress so the value shown on the board drops accordingly even though nobody has sold. The amount deducted is not lost; it becomes cash on its way. On November 20, VND 500 per share (after personal income tax as required) actually lands in the cash account. In other words, a cash dividend converts part of the share's value into cash. It does not add to a shareholder's wealth on the day it is received.

Where the money comes from: garment export orders

The payout rests on a strong quarter. Q3 2026 revenue was VND 3,228 billion, up 22.6% from Q3 2025. September alone brought in VND 856 billion, up 13.9% from September 2025.Doanh nhân Pháp luật

Profit grew faster than revenue. Q3 net profit was VND 151.5 billion, up about 29.5% year on year. The reason sits in the core business: gross profit rose to VND 456.7 billion (up about 27%), and gross margin edged up from 13.7% in Q3 2025 to 14.1%. Administrative costs also eased slightly, so net operating profit reached VND 206.6 billion, up 39.8%.Elibook

The profit did not come from one-offs. If anything, TNG booked an other-expense loss of VND 18.8 billion in the quarter. Elibook's analysis reads it this way: fabric remains expensive, but TNG sold more goods on the same fixed-cost base, and larger scale carried the margin.Elibook

There is a competing explanation. According to Elibook, VCBS Securities once attributed part of TNG's first-half growth to the company pulling orders forward to the US before new tariffs took effect. If it were only pulled-forward demand, Q3 should have stalled. Instead Q3 was the most profitable quarter in 12, so the available data leans toward genuine order volume. Even so, only the coming quarterly reports will show how durable this pace is. Also per Elibook, citing Mirae Asset Securities, about 40% of TNG's revenue comes from Europe, so the company does not rely on the US market alone.Elibook

The profit that flows to the banks

The downside of Q3 is interest expense. It reached VND 87.4 billion, up 22.6% year on year, equal to nearly 58% of that quarter's net profit.Elibook Set against the upcoming dividend, one quarter of interest paid to banks exceeds the entire payout by about VND 23 billion.

TNG's net profit, interest expense and second dividend compared

Another calculation makes the burden clearer. Net operating profit of VND 206.6 billion is already after interest. Add the VND 87.4 billion of interest back and TNG generated about VND 294 billion before paying its lenders. So of every three dong earned from operations in the quarter, nearly one went to interest.

Breakdown of what TNG earned from operations in Q3

Why does an export garment maker borrow so much? The mechanism lies in the working-capital cycle of contract manufacturing. The company buys fabric and trims and pays workers first, then collects only after delivery. More orders mean a bigger advance, and much of it is funded with short-term bank loans. The Q3 numbers fit that cycle: inventory fell to VND 1,382.5 billion because goods shipped heavily, while receivables rose 12% from the previous quarter.Elibook The goods have left the factory, but the cash has not fully returned.

Higher interest expense can come from two sources: a larger loan balance to run more orders, or a higher average borrowing rate. Public data is not enough to say which dominates. What is clear is that interest expense grew 22.6%, exactly the quarter's revenue growth rate, so the benefit of extra orders does not pass in full to shareholders.

Nine months in: where TNG stands against its plan

For the first nine months of 2026, TNG's revenue was VND 8,094 billion, up 21.3% year on year, or 85.2% of the full-year plan of VND 9,500 billion.Doanh nhân Pháp luật To reach the target, Q4 needs about VND 1,406 billion more in revenue. Nine-month net profit was VND 361.6 billion, up about 29%.Elibook

The shareholder register also moved. According to Doanh nhân Pháp luật, the Dragon Capital funds dropped out of the major-shareholder list after selling on October 2, then returned after buying on October 8, lifting their stake to 5.2799%.Doanh nhân Pháp luật The move around the 5% threshold is small and does not show a clear direction for the funds.

What is known and what must wait

What is settled: the VND 500 per share dividend has been approved by the board, with a November 11 record date and an expected payment on November 20. Nine-month revenue has covered more than 85% of the full-year plan, and Q3 profit came from the core business, not one-offs.

The picture from Q3 is that TNG's profit moves on two dials at once. One is orders, which are lifting revenue and gross margin. The other is the debt load, which takes nearly a third of operating earnings before they reach shareholders. When orders rise and borrowing rises at the same pace, profit still grows, but shareholders receive only what remains after the banks.

Two checkpoints will show whether this pace holds to year-end. The first is the monthly revenue TNG reports for October and November: if each month stays near September's VND 856 billion, the full-year revenue plan is likely to be met. The second is the Q4 financial statements. There, interest expense is worth setting beside net operating profit, along with whether customer receivables have turned into cash. If interest falls as a share of earnings and customer cash arrives steadily, the profit distributed to shareholders rests on firmer ground. If interest keeps growing in step with revenue, TNG's profit will remain heavily dependent on the cost of bank capital.
